Tribeca sticks to 'Detachment'

"Detachment"Distributor Tribeca Film has picked up U.S. rights to Tony Kaye drama "Detachment," which world preemed at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Pic toplines Adrien Brody as a substitute teacher whose growing attachments to students, teachers and a runaway teen cause him to question the solitary life he's chosen. Ensemble cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, James Caan, Lucy Liu, William Peterson, Blythe Danner and Tim Blake Nelson. Helmed by Kaye ("American History X") and written by Carl Lund, "Detachment" is produced by Paper Street Films' Austin Stark, Benji Kohn, Chris Papavasiliou, Bingo Gubelmann, Kingsgate Films' Greg Shapiro and Lund. Brody, Peter Sterling and Andre Laport were exec producers, with Marco Frigeri as co-exec producer. The distribution pact was negotiated by Tribeca's Nick Savva and Randy Manis with ICM. Canuck rights have been sold to Mongrel Media, and French rights went to Pretty Pictures. Both companies plan a 2012 release for the film. Celluloid Dreams handles worldwide sales rights. Tribeca Film also plans a 2012 release, with a multicity theatrical run going day-and-date with VOD; digital distribution, DVD, pay TV and other platforms will follow.
